SCURY VITAMINE C DEFICIANCY SCURVY Deficiency of vitamin c causes a disease called scurvy . This can occur in children & adult. SIGN & SYMPTOMS Infantile scurvy- edema over legs, Diarrhea , stunted skeletal growth, Bleeding  through gums , spasms & convulsions are chief signs of infantile scurvy. ADULT SCURVY Inflammation & bleeding from gums Dental caries Joint pain & stiffness Bleeding from any part of body Loss of weight Muscular weakness etc Adult scurvy can lead to death.             TREATMENT Ò   Inj. ascorbic acid 100  mg IM for one week. Ò   Followed by 500 mg orally for one month. Ò   For infant 50 mg IM & 100 mg of vitamin C orally should be given for one week
